Born in 1984, Valentin Couineau grew up in a deeply musical family environment. He began playing the violin at age five, then took up the trombone two years later. He continued his studies at the CNR in Clermont-Ferrand before enrolling at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he pursued advanced training in sound engineering. He completed his research thesis in collaboration with Radio France, France Télévisions, and IRCAM on binaural audio and sound spatialization, earning his degree in music engineering in 2012. His experimental approach and his triple artistic, technical, and analytical expertise now form the foundation of his professional identity. His work focuses primarily on creating music for visual media. Notably, he composed the original score for Mona Achache’s Little Girl Blue, starring Marion Cotillard, which was selected for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. He served as assistant composer on Lukas Dhont’s Close, winner of the Grand Prix at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, and also worked as an orchestrator and composer of additional music on Jessica Palud’s Maria, composed by Benjamin Biolay (Cannes 2024). He is also the score producer and co-composer of the theme song for the Largo Winch soundtrack, directed by Olivier Masset-Depasse, and served as music editor on In the Land of Saints and Sinners, which was nominated for a World Soundtrack Award. In 2025, he had the privilege of serving as artistic director for the London Symphony Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios for the film Asterix in the Land of the Nubians. To date, he has contributed to the creation of more than 45 film soundtracks throughout his career.
He also collaborates as an artistic director, score producer, arranger, orchestrator, sound engineer, and producer with numerous international composers and artists such as Mika, Benjamin Biolay, Julien Clerc, Mathieu Lamboley, Erwann Chandon, Romain Trouillet, and Javier Navarrete. His approach is distinguished by a comprehensive mastery of the music production process, from composition to post-production, as well as a particular sensitivity to the connections between storytelling, soundscapes, and dramatic structure.
At the same time, he founded Saorsa Productions, a company dedicated to supporting and producing audiovisual content for artists, enabling them to fully realize their ideas and guiding their projects through to release. He works with artists such as Monsieur Mala (winner of the 2025 Jazz Award), Sian Pottok, Assa Matusse, Tryptik Projekt, Ann Shirley, Nicholas Vella, and Lynn Adib.
His approach to sound as a creative tool leads him to pay particular attention to sound design, which is an integral part of his creative and mixing process. He taught for several years at the Gobelins School.
In 2024, he co-founded the electro-orchestral duo 5 Rosa alongside Romain Allender. Together, they are preparing to release their debut album in 2027.

Né en 1984, Valentin Couineau grandit dans un environnement familial profondément musical. Il commence le violon à cinq ans, puis le trombone deux ans plus tard. Il poursuit son cursus au CNR de Clermont-Ferrand avant d’intégrer le prestigieux Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris où il suit la formation supérieure aux métiers du son. Il réalise son mémoire de recherche aux côtés de Radio France, France télévision, et l’Ircam sur l’audio binaural et la spatialisation sonore et obtient son diplôme de musicien-ingénieur en 2012. Sa démarche expérimentale et sa triple compétence artistique, technique et analytique constituent aujourd’hui le socle de son identité professionnelle. Son activité se déploie principalement dans la création musicale pour l’image. Il compose notamment la bande originale de Little Girl Blue de Mona Achache, avec Marion Cotillard, sélectionné au Festival de Cannes 2023. Il est assistant compositeur sur le film Close de Lukas Dhont, Grand Prix du Festival de Cannes 2022, et intervient également comme orchestrateur et compositeur de musiques additionnelles sur Maria de Jessica Palud, composée par Benjamin Biolay (Cannes 2024). Il est par ailleurs score producer et co-compositeur du générique de la bande originale de Largo Winch réalisé par Olivier Masset-Depasse, et music editor sur In The Land Of Saints and Sinners, nommé aux World Soundtrack Awards. En 2025 Il a le privilège de faire la direction artistique du London Symphony Orchestra au mythique studio Abbey Road pour le film Astérix au royaume de Nubie. À ce jour il a participé à la création de plus de 45 bandes originales de film au cours de sa carrière.
Il collabore également comme directeur artistique, score producer, arrangeur, orchestrateur , ingénieur du son, et réalisateur avec de nombreux compositeurs et artistes internationaux comme Mika, Benjamin Biolay, Julien Clerc, Mathieu Lamboley, Erwann Chandon, Romain Trouillet ou Javier Navarrete. Son approche se distingue par une maîtrise globale de la chaîne musicale, de l’écriture à la post-production, ainsi que par une sensibilité particulière aux liens entre narration, espace sonore et dramaturgie.
En parallèle, il fonde Saorsa Productions, structure dédiée à l’accompagnement et à la production audiovisuelle d’artistes pour leur permettre d’aller au bout de leurs idées, accompagner leur projet jusqu’à sa sortie. Il travaille avec des artistes comme Monsieur Mala (victoire du jazz 2025), Sian Pottok, Assa Matusse, Tryptik Projekt , Ann Shirley, Nicholas Vella, Lynn Adib.
Son approche du son tel un outil de création l’amène à prêter une attention particulière au sound design, qui fait partie intégrante de son approche de création ou de mixage. Il enseigne pendant quelques années à l’école des Gobelins.
Il co-crée le duo de musique éléctro-orchestrale 5 Rosa aux côtés de Romain Allender en 2024. Ils préparent ensemble la sortie de leur premier album pour 2027.
